SHORT TAKES : Dinkins Has TV Role Down Pat

NEW YORK — Mayor David N. Dinkins says there was method in his acting debut: let Dinkins be Dinkins.
The mayor starred as himself in a cameo role in ABC’s “H.E.L.P,” an action adventure about emergency workers who answer 911 calls.
Dinkins said playing himself was a snap. “I know me well,” he said.
The mayor’s part called for him to present a medal for bravery to a heroic firefighter. In the role, Dinkins strides into City Hall’s Blue Room--site of daily mayoral news conferences--and utters 56 words.
The mayor was paid union scale, $414, for his 30-minutes work Tuesday. He said he plans to donate it to the Harlem Junior Tennis Program, which teaches the sport to indigent youth.
