Gray, a Republican, has been president and chief executive officer for Harbor Bancorp of Long Beach since 1974, and president of Jim Gray Volvo of Long Beach since 1963.

His term on the CSU board would expire March 1, 1998. Members are paid $100 per day plus expenses.
