Panel Restores Jockey Antley’s Race License

Jockey Chris Antley, who was undergoing drug rehabilitation, had his license restored today and is expected to ride Saturday at Aqueduct.

Richard F. Corbisiero Jr., chairman of the New York State Racing and Wagering Board, said that Antley completed the rehabilitation program and that, after close monitoring and frequent testing, it was determined he should be allowed to ride.

“We consider Chris Antley to be a superstar in the sport of thoroughbred racing, and we pray that he will not falter,” Corbisiero said.

Antley was suspended in late 1988 after testing positive for a prohibited substance. He missed the first month of 1989 because of that ban.

The 24-year-old native of Columbia, S.C., injured his knee in an accident at Saratoga in mid-August. He admitted turning to marijuana and cocaine during his recuperation and voluntarily surrendered his license.

Antley has ridden nearly 2,100 winners and has amassed purse earnings of more than $36 million.
