CAMARILLO : Man Struck, Killed Walking on Freeway

Share

A 52-year-old man was struck by a car and killed as he walked across the Ventura Freeway in Camarillo early Thursday, the California Highway Patrol said.

The victim, a Grover City resident who was not identified pending notification of relatives, had been driving south on the freeway when he tried to take the Carmen Drive exit at 5:34 a.m., said Officer Jim Utter. His car failed to make the turnoff, went over the edge of the off-ramp and fell to the freeway, Utter said.

The victim left the car and “for unknown reasons” tried to cross the freeway toward the center divider, Utter said. He was struck by a southbound car driven by Dionicio Rodriguez, 31, of Oxnard, who apparently did not see the victim, Utter said. A third car, driven by Laura Lee Williams, 29, of Oxnard, struck Rodriguez’s car from behind, Utter said.

Neither Williams nor Rodriguez was seriously injured, Utter said. A passenger in Rodriguez’s car, Manuel Arambula, 17, of Oxnard, also was uninjured.

The freeway was closed for about 30 minutes, Utter said. The cause of the accident was under investigation.
