A woman who kept dozens of malnourished and disease-ridden dogs, cats and birds in her Eagle Rock home was sentenced today to 60 days in County Jail and prohibited from owning any other pets while on probation.

Rebecca E. Courlie, 44, will be allowed to delay serving the jail time pending the outcome of her appeal.

Courlie pleaded no contest last October to four counts of animal neglect and one count each of operating unlicensed kennels and failing to notify the Department of Public Works about dead animals on her property.

Courlie was charged after city animal regulation officers, acting on an anonymous tip, searched her Eagle Rock home and found the carcasses of about 15 dead animals as well as dozens of other malnourished and disease-ridden animals on Aug. 10, 1988.
