Still no Major League Baseball, but plenty of basketball and boxing fill this weekend’s sports television schedule.

NCAA Tournament second-round games are scheduled for 9 and 11:30 a.m., 1:45 and 4 p.m. today on Channels 2 and 8. The same stations will carry a triple-header Sunday, with games at 11 a.m., 1:30 and 3:45 p.m.

Both local professional basketball teams are also on the air this weekend. The Lakers return to their ancestral home of Minneapolis to meet the expansion Minnesota Timberwolves at 5 p.m. today on Channels 9, 51 and 63. The Clippers play host to the Charlotte Hornets for a 6 p.m. SportsChannel game Sunday.

In what had been projected as the fight of the year before James (Buster) Douglas upset Mike Tyson last month, Julio Cesar Chavez will face Meldrick Taylor in a fight to unify the World Boxing Council super lightweight and International Boxing Federation junior welterweight championships. HBO’s coverage begins at 7 p.m., with the fight scheduled to start at 7:28 p.m.
