OAK PARK : School Board Views Restructuring Plan

Share

The Oak Park School Board watched a videotape Tuesday that outlines a proposal to change the way the district is structured by giving teachers and parents more power.

The videotape, produced by the state Department of Education, explains how restructuring would decentralize several powers traditionally held by high-ranking administrators.

For instance, teachers would assist administrators in deciding curriculum, establishing the budget and hiring and firing.

In addition, school site councils--composed of school principals, teachers and parents--would have greater discretion in selecting textbooks, developing educational goals and evaluating their peers.
