Desormeaux Is Hoping to Win in Hearing Room
Kent Desormeaux, who rode a record 597 winners in 1989, goes for No. 598 at Timonium, Md., today.
The race will be on film. Desormeaux is flying from California to try to convince the Maryland Racing Commission that the opening he found at the quarter pole of the Martha Washington Handicap at Laurel last Oct. 28 wasn’t too “narrow.”
And that he didn’t “soundly bump” the leader, Bearing Testamony, as he went through.
Desormeaux’s mount was Lady Winner, the 2-5 favorite. The French-bred winner was placed last and Yestday’s Kisses, a New York-bred, got the $45,000 winner’s purse.
