A 20-year-old Irvine man died at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana after his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck, police said this morning.

Michael Thomas Snell died from head injuries and his pillion rider, 18-year-old Edward S. Rogewski Jr., also of Irvine, sustained moderate injuries and was listed in satisfactory condition at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center, said Irvine police senior officer Owen Kreza.

The incident occurred about 7:50 p.m. Wednesday as the two men were headed east on Walnut Avenue in Irvine. Kreza said the motorcycle collided with the truck that was making a left turn onto Walnut Avenue from a side street.

Paramedics treated the two men at the scene before taking them to hospitals. Neither Snell nor Rogewski wore helmets, Kreza said.

The 42-year-driver of the pickup, an Irvine resident, was not injured.

No citations were issued and the investigation was continuing, Kreza said.
