HOUSTON — A state district judge today awarded $1.6 million and a condo to the common-law wife of New York Yankees outfielder Dave Winfield, who also was ordered to pay $3,500 monthly for child support.
State District Judge Allen J. Daggett ruled on the division of property between Winfield and flight attendant Sandra Renfro.
A jury found in June that Winfield’s relationship with Renfro from 1982 to 1985 constituted a common-law marriage. Winfield maintains that he never intended to marry Renfro and said he will appeal.
Winfield married Tonya Turner two years ago. Renfro had sought about $2.5 million from Winfield in child support for their 7-year-old daughter, Lauren Shanel.
