From Times staff and wire service reports

Authorities this morning identified the body of the woman who was strangled and then dumped behind an industrial park in Laguna Hills two days ago.

Sheriff’s Lt. Richard J. Olson said the woman has been positively identified as Lori Mae Calhoun, 41. Her last known address was in the Long Beach area, he said.

Calhoun’s fully clothed body was discovered about 3 a.m. Wednesday by Leisure World security officers behind the Laguna Hills Commercial Center in the 23000 block of Ridge Route Drive.

An autopsy performed Wednesday determined that she had been strangled.

On Thursday, the investigation into Calhoun’s murder took an unusual twist when a Lakewood man shot and killed himself as Orange County sheriff’s deputies appeared on his doorstep to ask whether he was renting a room to the woman.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is withholding the apparent suicide victim’s identity until his relatives can be notified.
