Charlie Lyons’ goal as the new president of the United Way of Ventura County is to get more people involved in contribution campaigns.

Lyons, of Westlake Village, has been selected as president for 1990-1991. He succeeds Laura McAvoy.

Lyons, the manager of Exxon Co. USA’s division in Thousand Oaks, said he sees a need to get more businesses and individuals to contribute to the United Way. Hundreds of businesses in the county do not contribute, he said.

Lyons is also a regent for California Lutheran University, a member of the Santa Barbara Industry Education Council, the Conejo Valley Symphony and the Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce. He is a member of the Western States Petroleum Assn.’s management committee.

The United Way of Ventura County provided funds for 63 county agencies last year.

“We’re still raising money,” said Sylvia Schnopp, the organization’s marketing director, when asked how much money has been raised.
