The state Department of Housing and Community Development has awarded $676,749 to Orange County to fund local homeless shelter programs.
The grant is provided by the state Emergency Shelter Program and can be used to rehabilitate shelters or buy new facilities and equipment.
The funds will be disbursed to six local agencies based on size and need, said Gregg Goggin, chairman of the Orange County Emergency Food and Shelter Board, which will administer the grant.
The board, a private, nonprofit agency, distributes state and federal funds to local organizations for emergency lodging, first month’s rent, food, utilities and move-in costs.
For more information or applications, call Goggin at (714) 971-7300, Ext. 108. Applications are due by April 27.
