Norris Knocks Out Mugabi, Takes Title
Terry Norris floored John Mugabi 90 seconds into the fight and took Mugabi’s World Boxing Council super welterweight title Saturday with a knockout at 2:47 of the first round at Tampa, Fla.
Mugabi got up the first time at the count of eight and looked as if he might survive the round. But Norris, 153 3/4 pounds, hurt the champion again with a straight right and unleashed another right that sent Mugabi down to stay about 15 seconds later.
Mugabi is 37-3, including 1986 losses to Marvelous Marvin Hagler and Duane Thomas. Norris is 25-3 with 14 knockouts.
