COUNTYWIDE : 3 Students Seek College Board Post

Three students have announced their candidacies for student representative to the Ventura County Community College District governing board.

Ventura College student John Scherling and Moorpark College students Lauren Eaton and Jon Runyan will compete for the position in elections April 4 and 5.

Scherling, a first-year student at Ventura College, has been active in student government, serving as representative to both the California Student Assn. of Community Colleges and the Student Advisory Committee for the California Post-Secondary Education Commission.

Eaton attends day and evening classes at Moorpark College while working as co-owner of a photography studio. She serves as public relations officer and executive board member of Moorpark College’s Associated Student Board.

Runyan plans to graduate from Moorpark with a degree in math/physics/engineering. He has served on committees for the California Student Assn. of Community Colleges. He also serves as executive board member of the Associated Student Board for Moorpark College.

The student representative of the three-college district is recognized as a full member of the board and may cast an advisory vote on board business.

The new representative will be sworn in July 3 and will serve a one-year term.
