A 50-year-old pharmacologist has been arrested in the death of his wife after telling a telephone operator that he had fatally shot the woman in their Brea home, police said today.

Authorities said Charles Desylva Villacres is being held without bail at the Orange County Jail. His wife, Linda Grace Villacres, 54, was pronounced dead by paramedics who were called late Sunday night to the residence in the 800 block of North Grand Canyon.

Villacres telephoned a directory assistance operator at 11:23 p.m. Sunday and said he had just shot his wife, a Brea police spokeswoman said.
