LOCAL : Man Killed by Car in Lancaster
A 55-year-old man died early today after being struck and killed as he tried to cross a street in Lancaster, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported.
The man, a transient whose name was not disclosed pending notification of relatives, was walking across Avenue I at Beech Avenue when he was hit by a car shortly before 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sgt. Ron Shreves said.
No charges are anticipated against the car’s driver, Judy Faye Windemaker, 41, of Lancaster, Detective David Davidson said. Windemaker was traveling within the 40-m.p.h. speed limit and attempted to stop but could not, he said. She was not hurt.
“It appears the person just walked out in front of the vehicle,” Davidson said.
