Macek Not Revealing Plans for Future

Center Don Macek, who after 14 years with the Chargers will not be invited back for the 1990 season, said Wednesday he is not ready to make an announcement about his future.

Macek, 35, said he has made a decision, but does not want to reveal it at this time and has not set a date to make an announcement. He said he has not formally informed the Chargers of his decision.

Macek’s contract expired Feb. 1. He was left unprotected in Plan B free agency, but when he did not sign with another team by the end of the two-month Plan B period Sunday, his rights reverted back to the Chargers.

The Chargers have until April 15 to make him a contract offer or he again will become an unconditional free agent. But General Manager Bobby Beathard said Tuesday the team will not make an offer to Macek.
