Film, TV Fund Gets $25,000

The Motion Picture and Television Fund received a $25,000 donation from film editor Margaret Booth (whose career spans 70 years) Feb. 7 to provide medical care and social services to film and television industry members. The fund operates an acute care hospital, skilled nursing facility, outpatient centers in Woodland Hills and Hollywood, an Alzheimer’s Care Unit and a retirement community.

Amnesty International of the USA netted more than $10,000 at its premiere screening of “The Handmaid’s Tale” and party March 5 at Cineplex Odeon Century Plaza. Proceeds will help the organization continue its worldwide human rights work.

Immaculate Heart College Center netted $40,000 at its second annual Corita Kent Peace Award Dinner March 7. The Beverly Hilton event was attended by 300 guests. Proceeds will help to support peace education programs at the center. Joan Palevsky was event chair.

Hollywood Charity Horse Show raised more than $50,000 at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center March 13 through 17. Proceeds will benefit 10 Southland children’s charities. William Shatner and Patrick Duffy were hosts with David Mirisch, who produced the show. Barbara Thomas and Marcy Shatner were co-chairs. Major sponsors were Rothman Foundation, Chevron U.S.A. Inc., Gateway Cablevision, American Bankers Insurance Co. and the Josephine Stedem Scripps Foundation.

Women’s College Neve Yerushalayim in Jerusalem will receive $500,000 to complete the financing of the college from proceeds raised at a dinner March 15 at the home of Micheline and Max Keller. The Kellers, record company executive Mike Curb and friends built the dormitory, which houses 84 international students.

City of Angels Hospice raised $7,000 March 20 at its first benefit, a preview performance of “Greater Tuna” at Westwood Playhouse. Proceeds will be used to help enlarge the year-old six-patient facility to accommodate more AIDS patients.
