A Superior Court judge on Thursday set July 11 as the trial date for Mark Radke, accused of slaying a 16-year-old Mira Mesa High School student in 1988.

The U.S. Supreme Court recently declined to hear an appeal challenging the admissibility of evidence against Radke, 23. His lawyers claim San Diego police lacked probable cause to arrest him.

Radke is accused of killing Jeffrey Rudiger on Jan. 21, 1988. Rudiger was found clad in his underwear, handcuffed and beaten to death in Scripps Ranch.

Superior Court Judge Jesus Rodriguez set the July 11 trial date, but Radke’s attorney, Douglas Brown, said he will ask for a change of venue on grounds of extensive pretrial publicity.

Radke, who had worked with Rudiger at a pizza restaurant in Scripps Ranch, remains free on $300,000 bail posted by his parents.
