MOORPARK : 3 Acres Purchased for Freeway Link

Share

A three-acre strip of land in Moorpark that will be used to link freeways between Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks was recently purchased by Caltrans for $1.6 million, transportation officials said.

The deal included two parcels at the ends of the Simi Valley and the Moorpark freeways near Los Angeles Avenue, which were purchased from Cabot, Cabot & Forbes on March 12, officials said Wednesday.

“It’s another step so we can get enough acreage to build the interchange,” said Thomas Knox, an official with the state Department of Transportation. That “is a gap we’ve been trying to fill for some time.”

Knox said the parcels include vacant land in an industrial zone, so no individuals or businesses will be affected by construction at the site, which he said may include the building of connector ramps.

Construction should begin in 1991 and be completed in 1994, he said.

The link between the two freeways “will ease congestion to some degree,” Knox said. “It will be a benefit to all the users.”
