Tall Ship Aims to Hoist Awareness of the Ocean

A replica of an 1849 vintage U.S. Customs ship will visit Marina del Rey today to launch Coast-Link ‘90, a yearlong effort to raise public awareness of coastal and ocean protection issues.
Tall ship “The Californian” will dock at Fisherman’s Village on Fiji Way and will be open to the public from noon to 4 p.m.
The ship’s visit, the first of 22 ports of call along the coast, is part of a campaign sponsored by the California Coastal Commission, the Nautical Heritage Society and Pepsi. The campaign encourages students to adopt a beach, participate in beach cleanups and learn about the coastal environment.
