Driver Killed in East County Crash
A 59-year-old San Diego man was killed Saturday afternoon when he lost control of the pickup he was driving and ran off Interstate 8 in eastern San Diego County, authorities said.
The victim was identified as George Jacob Voelp. He was dead at the scene.
Authorities said that at 4:45 p.m., Voelp lost control of the vehicle and veered off westbound I-8 near the intersection with Lake Jennings Park Road. The pickup overturned, ejecting Voelp.
The California Highway Patrol was investigating.
