Track and field’s governing body named two experts today to help coordinate random drug tests and other anti-drug programs.

The International Amateur Athletic Federation said Bryan Wotton, a former member of the British Sports Council’s drug-abuse panel, will help implement random tests as part of “a rigorous program of doping control throughout the world.”

The tests will be conducted at meets and during training sessions, the federation said.

It also named Staffan Sahlstrom of Sweden as liaison between federation headquarters and the federation’s medical commission, chaired by another Swede, Dr. Arne Ljungqvist.

Sahlstrom has worked with the Swedish Sports Council and masterminded a Scandinavian plan for random drug-testing outside of competition.
