SIDELINES : Parrish’s Star Rises in Japan
Former major leaguer Larry Parrish hit a home run to help the Hanshin Tigers to a 3-2 victory over the Central League’s defending champion Yomiuri Giants today.
Parrish played last season for the Yakult Swallows and won the league’s home run title with 42.
At Tokyo’s Jingu Stadium, a grand slam homer by former Chicago Cub Vance Law in the fifth inning led the Chunichi Dragons to a 6-5 victory over the Swallows. It was Law’s second homer this season.
Mike Young, formerly with the Cleveland Indians, hit a two-run home run as the Hiroshima Toyo Carp trounced the Yokohama Taiyo Whales 10-2.
