Bette Davis Buys Are a Hit: Bette Davis fans packed an auction of the late star’s possessions at New York’s William Doyle Galleries. But many left empty-handed as pre-sale estimates were eclipsed by bids in the hundreds and even thousands of dollars. A crayon drawing of the star by designer Edith Head fetched $23,100, almost $22,000 more than its estimated value. The final auction tally was $221,336, more than twice the expected amount.
