YORBA LINDA : Youths Arrested in Robbery After Chase

Two teen-agers suspected of robbing a Yorba Linda bowling alley early Thursday morning surrendered to police after a brief chase, authorities said.

Detective Grant Gulickson said the suspects, armed with air pistols, used a crowbar to pry open the back door of Village Bowl in the 18000 block of Imperial Highway at 3:15 a.m.

They tied up a janitor and left with a pillowcase stuffed with an undisclosed amount of coins, Gulickson said.

The janitor freed himself and called police. An officer who responded to the scene saw the suspects’ car leaving the bowling alley’s parking lot.

After a short chase, the officer found the car abandoned in the area of Oriente Drive and Lakeview Avenue.

Gulickson said the suspects ran to a friend’s house and telephoned their parents, who advised them to surrender to police. They were later taken into custody.

Police arrested Michael Burton, 18, of Anaheim and a 17-year-old Brea youth on suspicion of robbery.

Burton was held on $10,000 bail while the juvenile, whose name was withheld because of his age, was released to his parents after being taken to Juvenile Hall.

Gulickson said officers recovered the pillowcase of coins and two air pistols.
