A man hired to protect Motley Crue band members during a concert is seeking $25,000 from the heavy-metal band, claiming that its leader hit him in the head with a cowbell during the show.

Mark Elrod of Ft. Wayne filed the complaint Tuesday in Allen Superior Court against Motley Crue and Vince Neil, the band leader.

Elrod’s job as a security guard for the March 21 concert required him to stand between the audience and the band, with his back to the stage. During the concert, the lawsuit says, Neil “hurled” a cowbell toward the audience and it struck Elrod in the back of the head.

Elrod claims that Motley Crue was negligent and is seeking $25,000 in damages for medical expenses, missed workdays and personal injuries, including continual headaches and dizziness.

He is also is seeking unspecified punitive damages for the band’s alleged “willful and wanton misconduct.”

Efforts to reach a spokesman for the band through the Elektra-Asylum record company in New York were unsuccessful.
