* BUDGET CUTS: The Long Beach school board is scheduled to discuss proposals to trim $11.5 million from the district’s budget at the board meeting at 4 p.m. Monday. The proposals include eliminating about 75 custodial jobs, starting classes earlier, and increasing the size of some physical education classes.

* HEATING THINGS UP: Mayor Tom Bradley, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Fischer and actor Daniel J. Travanti will hold a news conference at 11 a.m. Monday to launch a nationwide grass-roots campaign to combat global warming and to unveil seven TV announcements featuring nine Hollywood actors. The event is at the Mondrian Hotel, Grand Salon, 8440 Sunset Blvd.

* GRAND PRIX: Al Unser Jr., Michael Andretti, Danny Sullivan and Bobby Rahal will be among drivers expected to compete next Sunday in the 16th Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. The race starts at 1 p.m. A pro/celebrity race on the 1.67-mile course will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday.
