An 82-year-old man was stabbed and pushed out of his car Saturday after he was kidnaped during a robbery at an Antelope Valley market, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported.

The alleged robber was later arrested in Van Nuys on suspicion of attempted murder.

The victim, Russell Elliott, was in fair condition at Palmdale Hospital Medical Center, where he was expected to undergo surgery for several cuts to his arm, Sheriff’s Deputy Dennis Diederich said.

Elliott resisted efforts by Ollis Anderson, 39, of Palmdale to steal his car as he sat in the vehicle waiting for his wife outside a market in the 7700 block of Pearblossom Highway, Diederich said.

Anderson drove off with Elliott sitting in the passenger seat, then stopped the car a short distance away.

The two men fought, then Anderson stabbed Elliott and pushed him out of the car, Diederich said.

A sheriff’s deputy who heard a radio description of the stolen car sighted the vehicle heading south on the Antelope Valley Freeway near San Fernando Road, Diederich said.

He followed it until the driver got off the San Diego Freeway at Sherman Way, where other deputies and California Highway Patrol officers arrested Anderson.

Anderson was being held without bail at the Antelope Valley sheriff’s station on suspicion of attempted murder, kidnaping and robbery, Diederich said.
