Assuming Benjamin Stein (“Ultimate American Weapon,” Editorial Page, March 31) was serious and did not have tongue firmly planted in cheek, may I point out that the revolutions sweeping Eastern Europe and elsewhere preceded exposure to American television. Rather than the cause of their revolt it will be their reward.

But television undoubtedly played some role in their discontent . . . communist, totalitarian television that is. Viewing the boring, inane, and inaccurate images served up to them probably helped trigger their anger and frustration.

Now they are giving up all that for inane, inaccurate and trite American television. Welcome to the wonderful brave new world of entertainment.
