Singer-actress Melba Moore was honored Tuesday at a congressional reception for her new record, “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” Rep. Walter Fauntroy welcomed Moore and representatives from several black organizations to a special premiere of the video of the song, which also features Dionne Warwick, Stevie Wonder, Anita Baker, CeCe Williams and Freddie Jackson, along with narration by Louis Gossett Jr. and Jesse Jackson. The song was written in 1900 by James Weldon Johnson to celebrate the birthday of Abraham Lincoln and through the years came to be recognized as the black national anthem. . . . Gospel singer Sandi Patti sat crying in a car Tuesday morning as firefighters searched the rubble of her offices in Anderson, Ind., for memorabilia and the cause of the suspicious fire. One of the things salvaged was a picture of Patti’s children. A spokesman said many of her gold records and 29 Dove awards were saved but her four Grammys were disfigured by heat. Authorities said the burn pattern of the fire was suspicious.
