Suit Seeks to Block Building of Marina Place
- Share via
The city of Los Angeles and the Venice Town Council have filed suit against Culver City in an effort to block construction of Marina Place, a regional shopping mall proposed at Culver City’s western tip.
The suit charges that the project’s environmental impact report does not adequately address concerns that the project, planned at a site one block from Lincoln Boulevard near Marina del Rey, would congest traffic, pollute the air and burden sewage systems. Debra Bowen, attorney for the Venice Town Council community group, said the 1-million-square-foot mall should be scaled back or redesigned.
Culver City Mayor Steven Gourley said that the lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, is “hypocritical” and noted that Los Angeles is planning large developments of its own nearby.
