Miami’s efforts to win a major league baseball team have received a boost--donated land, state House committee approval of a hotel tax increase and a Japanese offer to finance a stadium.

Mayor Xavier Suarez announced that Florida East Coast Industries has agreed to donate seven acres of the largest undeveloped parcel in the city. The stadium would require 10 acres, but the mayor said he hoped to talk FEC into donating three more.
