Australian Pat Cash continued his comeback from an eight-month injury layoff by upsetting second seed Kevin Curren of the United States 6-1, 6-4 today in the Salem Open tennis championship.

Cash, the 1987 Wimbledon champion, swept aside Curren in a first-round match.

“To say I was reasonably happy would be an understatement,” Cash said after the first-round victory. Curren is No. 43 in the world rankings.

Cash, the 1987 Wimbledon champion and currently ranked No. 243, last week reached the final of the South Korea Open.
