SIDELINES : Oregon Sports Lottery Take Low
Sports Action, the Oregon Lottery’s controversial wagering game involving professional football and basketball, ended its first year with earnings below most of its projections but raised $447,000 for collegiate athletic programs in the state.
Sports Action ended Sunday with the close of the National Basketball Assn.’s regular season. It will resume in September with the National Football League season.
The game grossed about $7.2 million since last fall. Lottery officials had hoped to gross $10 million from Sports Action, the first game in the nation to featuring wagering on point spreads of professional football and basketball games.
In its final week, Sports Action had only $35,000 in sales, said Lottery Director Jim Davey.
