COLLEGE ROUNDUP : UCLA Sweeps The Titans in Softball

UCLA, the top-ranked softball team in the nation, swept a doubleheader from Cal State Fullerton, 5-0 and 1-0, on Wednesday at UCLA.

UCLA (48-5) scored five runs, three unearned, off Ann Van Dortrecht (26-7). UCLA scored an unearned run in the second inning of the second game and Heather Compton (12-1) pitched a one-hitter. Fullerton is 41-16.

In another nonconference softball doubleheader:

Christ College Irvine 3-7, Pacific Christian 1-8--Lisa Merenda (17-7) pitched a six-hitter for Irvine in the first game at Cal State Fullerton. Christ College Irvine is 31-19.

In nonconference men’s tennis:

UC Irvine 5, San Diego State 1--The match, started Monday but stopped because of rain with Irvine leading, 4-1, was ended today because San Diego State defaulted in order to rest for the conference finals this weekend.

Trevor Kronemann won, 6-4, 6-3, Shige Kanroji won, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, Mike Roberts won, 6-1, 6-3, and Carsten Hoffmann, 5-7, 7-5, 6-4, in singles for Irvine (18-11). San Diego State is 18-8.
