Conejo Valley Days Festival Under Way

“Rabbits, Oaks and Good Old Folks.” No, it’s not the title of a nursery rhyme you might have heard in preschool, but it is the theme of this year’s Conejo Valley Days.

For more than 40 years Conejo Valley residents have participated in the annual event that features attractions such as parades, rodeos and a carnival.

The celebration of Conejo Valley’s heritage, which began Wednesday, will continue through Sunday at the Conejo Creek Park on Janss Road, off Moorpark Freeway in Thousand Oaks. A volunteer-based effort, Conejo Valley Day is the principal fund-raising vehicle for more than 200 service clubs, charities and organizations in the Conejo Valley.

The following is a list of events and activities scheduled at the main site through Sunday. Hours: today 5 to 10 p.m., Friday 5 p.m. to midnight, Saturday noon to midnight and Sunday noon to 8 p.m.

Carnival attractions will include a double ferris wheel and other rides. Bingo games will be offered, and the Country Fair will feature numerous arts and crafts booths. Entertainment will include country music and other acts playing on an outdoor stage.

Admission to the site for adults, $2.50; students, $2; children 7 to 12, $1; and children 6 and under, free.

A highlight of Conejo Valley Days are two rodeos, including a junior event for ages 5 to 18.

Friday, the juniors will compete from noon to 5 p.m., with the main portion scheduled from 7 to 11 p.m. Goat tying, dummy roping and pole bending are some of the events scheduled.

The professionals will enter the arena Saturday (1:30 to 4:30 p.m.) and Sunday (1 to 4 p.m.). Events will include bull riding and calf roping. Rodeo admission will be free.

The Conejo Valley Days Parade will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at Auburn Court and proceed west on Thousand Oaks Boulevard to Los Feliz Drive.
