Trumps Bring Their Agreement Up-to-Date

In yet another twist to their saga of marital discord, billionaire Donald Trump and his wife, Ivana, have signed an agreement allowing each of them to conduct their social lives as if they were single, for at least 60 days, a lawyer for the developer said Wednesday. The Trumps have been separated since their split two months ago, but neither has filed for divorce.

The four-line agreement, requested by Mrs. Trump, was signed last week and permits the couple to see whomever they want in a social capacity without giving either the grounds for divorce, according to attorney Stanford Lotwin. (In New York State, adultery is grounds for divorce.) If both are amenable, the agreement can be extended.

“It’s a very simple thing,” said Lotwin, noting that it does not affect Mrs. Trump’s pending lawsuit to overturn the $25-million prenuptial agreement. “This is what we call a no-prejudice agreement,” Lotwin said. “It was suggested by Mrs. Trump because I assume she wants to resume her social life . . . He (Donald Trump) feels that if she would like to, she should have a right to.”

Lotwin, a prominent matrimonial lawyer, said the agreement is unusual and that his client was surprised by the request. Disclosure of the Trumps’ latest deal appears to put the kibosh on recent reports the couple are on the verge of reconciling.

Stories about the Trump split were fueled by speculation that the developer had jilted his wife for Marla Maples. Trump, however, has said the two are “just friends.”
