WEEKEND TV : The Bakkers Go Up Against the Beach Boys

A “Hallmark Hall of Fame” special, the private lives of the Beach Boys and the rise and fall of Jim and Tammy Bakker--hallelujah, it must be the first weekend of the May sweeps.

The big three networks go head to head in a battle of high-profile TV movies Sunday at 9 p.m. CBS (2)(8) has Stephanie Zimbalist in “Caroline?” ABC (7)(3)(10)(42) counters with “The Story of the Beach Boys: Summer Dreams,” a movie based on the backstage gossip concerning the famous California group. And NBC (4)(36)(39) presents “Fall From Grace,” starring Bernadette Peters and Kevin Spacey as Tammy and Jim Bakker.

Other programming this weekend includes the “Andrew Lloyd Webber Story,” tonight at 9 p.m. on Channel 28, a profile of the British composer featuring excerpts from “Cats,” “Evita” and several more of his popular musicals.

And “Ol’ Blue Eyes Is Back” Sunday at 9 p.m. on the Disney Channel. Gene Kelly is featured in the first of Frank Sinatra’s library of 13 TV specials to be aired every other month on the pay cable channel.
