SKID ROW: The Los Angeles County registrar-recorder’s office will launch a voter registration drive today along Los Angeles’ Skid Row. A special registrar’s van will be located at San Julian Park, corner of East 5th and South San Julian streets.
CINCO DE MAYO: A variety of events will be held around Los Angeles County this week to commemorate Cinco de Mayo. In Huntington Park, the 13th annual Cinco de Mayo Fiesta will run from Thursday through next Monday and feature a 30-ride carnival, games, food booths and a salsa recipe contest. Poncho Sanchez and his Latin Jazz Band will headline a day of events Saturday at Silverado Park, 1545 W. 31st St., Long Beach.
SECOND THOUGHTS: After angry protests by black community leaders, the Pasadena Board of Directors meets Monday to reconsider its offer of the Pasadena city manager’s post to Philip Hawkey, a 43-year-old white administrator from Toledo, Ohio.
MARATHON: The 9th annual Long Beach Marathon will be held from 7:25 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. next Sunday. The 26.2-mile route follows Ocean Boulevard and Shoreline Drive and then swings north to Recreation Park Golf Course along Appian Way and Park Avenue.
