A South-Central Los Angeles woman Saturday was arrested and booked on suspicion of murder in the death of her 9-month-old daughter, authorities said.

Jamica Spencer was placed on life-support systems at Childrens Hospital in Los Angeles before 7 a.m. and died in an intensive care unit at 3:50 p.m., said Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. Mark Perez of the Southwest Division.

The infant was originally brought by her 22-year-old mother, Earsha Adkison, to California Medical Center in Los Angeles early Saturday morning suffering from severe head injuries, authorities said.

She was transferred by a Los Angeles Fire Department rescue ambulance to Childrens Hospital. “The victim arrived unconscious and was placed on life-support systems in critical condition,” Perez said.

Police brought the mother into the station for questioning along with other family members and witnesses.

Her four other children, all of whom are younger than 10 years old, were placed in protective custody, said Police Sgt. David Young. Adkison was being held without bail at Sybil Brand Institute for women, Perez said.
