Thomas Muster of Austria and Andrei Chesnokov of the Soviet Union won their semifinal matches Saturday and will play today for the championship of the Monte Carlo Open.

Muster used blistering forehands and delicate lobs to beat Henri Leconte of France, 6-2, 6-3. Chesnokov, the No. 12 seeded player, outlasted No. 7 Emilio Sanchez of Spain, 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) in a 2 1/2-hour match.

Muster needed only 33 minutes to wrap up the first set against Leconte. He broke Leconte’s serve in the first game of the match.

“I was returning serve very well,” Muster said. “And I think that was the key of my success today because I could cover his second shot.”

Arantxa Sanchez Vicario of Spain swept past Judith Wiesner of Austria, 6-2, 6-1, to advance to the final of the Spanish Open in Barcelona.

The top-seeded Spaniard plays fourth-seeded Isabel Cueto of West Germany, who upset No. 2 Mary Joe Fernandez of Miami, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, in the other semifinal.

Pat Cash beat Patrick Kuhnen, 6-7 (1-7), 7-5, 6-1, and advanced to the championship of the Salem Open in Hong Kong. Cash will meet Alex Antonitsch, who beat Jonathan Canter of Beverly Hills, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, in the other semifinal.
