CHECKING OUT ‘CHANNELS’

Your movie rating system often perplexes me. For example, in the April 8 edition of TV Times, Kevin Thomas described “Switching Channels” as a “frenetic, misfired attempt to update ‘The Front Page’ to the cable business.” Thomas went on to say that the film “traps Kathleen Turner, Christopher Reeve and Burt Reynolds in an enervating, joyless endurance course.” Yet in the TV listings, you gave it three stars which, according to your rating key, is “first rate.”
