The manager of a restaurant in Playa del Rey was shot to death when one of two robbers opened fire for no apparent reason, Los Angeles police said Tuesday.

Detective Chuck Worthen of the LAPD’s Pacific Division station said the robbers entered the Bob’s Big Boy cafe in the 8000 block of Manchester Boulevard about 11 p.m. Monday, an hour after closing time. The pair produced guns, walked up to the manager, 29-year-old Albert Brodeur Jr. of Redondo Beach, and demanded money, Worthen said.

Before Brodeur could respond, one of the men shot him several times, police said. Both men ran from the restaurant. It was not immediately determined whether any money was taken.
