No Shortage of Rooters for Summer Squall
Should Summer Squall win the Kentucky Derby Saturday, they’ll have to draw straws to see who gets into the winner’s circle.
There is a 20-person limit in the winner’s circle.
The colt has 28 owners who are members of Dogwood Stable’s Classic partnership that purchased yearling colts by five leading sires--Storm Bird, Nijinsky II, Nureyev, Alydar and Danzig.
Cot Campbell, president of Dogwood Stable, said not all the partners would attend the Derby, but there would be a group of 25, including spouses.
The 28 people purchased 40 shares in the partnerships at $55,900 a share.
Holding more than one share are Ray Roncari, Mrs. John Ben Ali Haggin and Paul Oreffice. Oreffice is board chairman of Dow Chemical Co.
