Police Battle With 500 Soccer Fans in Belgium

BRUGES, Belgium — Police fought 500 rioting soccer fans after FC Bruges won the Belgian league championship Sunday, and fighting also broke out in Holland and Germany.
Seven policemen were injured and 42 people were arrested.
In Nijmegen, Dutch police arrested 34 Ajax Amsterdam fans between in street rioting. Police clad in riot gear made two baton charges to disperse crowds of up to 250 Ajax fans in the southeastern city, where their team tied NEC, 1-1, to win the Honor Division soccer title.
In Mannheim, West Germany, police detained 75 soccer fans after heavy fighting following a West German first division match. Two policemen were slightly injured.
