Joffrey Board Deciding Future of L.A. Season

The Joffrey Ballet board of directors held a bi-coastal meeting Wednesday in Los Angeles and New York to consider the fate of the beleaguered company’s season here. After the meeting, a statement was issued saying only that discussions were ongoing.

Joffrey artistic director and co-founder Gerald Arpino resigned last week, citing a management reorganization that stripped his responsibilities. Arpino’s attorney later advised the company to refrain from performing any Arpino works during the current season at the Music Center. The company removed Arpino works from three programs and must decide what to do about his works scheduled for this Sunday.

The board was reportedly considering proposals from Arpino’s attorney that would allow the company to use Arpino’s works, at least temporarily.

Arpino told The Times on Tuesday that he just wants “to be given the company that me and Bob Joffrey founded. I want to regain control of his vision and goals.”
