6 1/2 Tons of Hashish Discovered in Turkey
Police seized 6 1/2 tons of hashish hidden aboard a Lebanese trawler and arrested six people, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported Wednesday.
The shipment, one of the biggest ever seized in Turkey, was destined for Greece and had a street value of $120 million, according to police in this Mediterranean coastal province.
The agency quoted Antalya Gov. Erol Tezcan as saying police also seized 22 pounds of heroin and an unspecified number of weapons and ammunition aboard the trawler, identified as the Ceta-M.
The statement identified the six arrested as a Greek, two Syrians, two Lebanese and a Palestinian.
