Tyrone Phillips of Los Angeles, a freshman on the Marshall University basketball team, has been charged with misdemeanor assault of a female student.

Phillips, who played at Fremont High School in Los Angeles, was scheduled for a hearing in Cabell County Magistrate Court at 9 a.m. Friday. He was freed on $500 bond after turning himself in to authorities Wednesday.

A warrant obtained by Rebecca Jude, a student who lives off campus, said Phillips shoved her with his hand on her shoulder when he was asked to leave after arriving for a party at her apartment. Jude said Phillips left after she called police and officers asked him to leave.

Phillips, who said he did not shove Jude, said he was invited to the party by Lori Haldren, a resident of the same address. Haldren told The Herald-Dispatch of Huntington she did not invite Phillips to the party.

Phillips, a 6-foot-6, 200-pound forward, averaged 2.5 points and 1.8 rebounds in 24 games for Marshall.
